Battle of the States administers exams using the Scilympiad platform. Our Scilympiad website is scilympiad.com/battleofthestates. Note that Battle of the States is simply one of many competitions using the Scilympiad platform, but we are not the operators of Scilympiad in general.
Using Scilympiad.com can have a learning curve. Here are some resources to help you get started, focused just on what is needed for our competition.
For coaches, we recommend taking a look through the Scilympiad Head Coach Guide and Coaches Webinars, both of which you can find in your Head Coach Dashboard.
For students, we recommend visiting the Student Dashboard, which contains helpful links to the Student Reference Guide and a Student Webinar.
When a student logs in to take a test, they should always start from the Battle of the States homepage (scilympiad.com/battleofthestates) before continuing to the Battle of the States’ unique Student Login page. If a student gets a message like “You have not been assigned to a tournament. Make sure you're in the right tournament...”, they are probably at the wrong login page.
Only an official adult team coach may register their team(s) for the competition. See full registration instructions on the Registration page.
After you register, you will need to pay your team fees. You can pay by going to "Coaches" > "Head Coach Dashboard" > "Register/Update Teams" > "View/Pay Registration Fees". On the “Registration Discounts” page, you should select “None”, unless you qualify for a discount as a team in your first 2 years of Science Olympiad.
After you have registered and paid, you will not be able to set up your team until the tournament director has assigned your team a team number. The tournament director will assign team numbers starting in late November.
After the first round of team numbers are assigned, team numbers will be assigned on a daily basis for newly registered teams. If it is past November 25th and your team has paid but not been assigned a team number for 24 hours, e-mail the tournament director to get set up.
As a head coach, once your team has a team number assigned, the main steps you will need to complete are:
Go to “Coaches” > “Head Coaches Dashboard”
Go to Student/Team/Event Assignment. (This page will also have instructions at the bottom)
Add the names of the students to compete in the grid. They will each get a login ID generated.
Go to “Students to Teams” to assign students to teams
Go to “Students to Events” to assign students to events
Give the students their Login IDs. Ask them to use the "Student Login" link in the top banner of scilympiad.com/battleofthestates. They should be able to create an account and view a dashboard with a link to take the test.
